How is O&O
SafeErase integrated into Windows? Does it require training
to use it?
For safe erasure of files and folders, you do not have to
start an additional application. O&O SafeErase integrates
itself into the context menu in exactly the same way as the
conventional "delete" command. Simply click on the file to
be deleted with the right mouse button and choose O&O
SafeErase. Confirm the request by clicking "Yes" and your
file is gone.
Why is O&O
SafeErase safe? Does O&O SafeErase comply with the standards
of the US Department of Defense?
O&O SafeErase initially gives the user a choice of five
different methods of erasure to satisfy a variety of needs.
The methods of erasure differ in number of times a file is
overwritten and in type of overwriting process used. These
methods guarantee maximum security, whatever your need. In
addition to the standardized methods of erasure from the
U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and the Bundesamt für
Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik (BSI, German
information security agency), you can choose the Gutmann
method, which is appropriate for matters requiring the
highest security. This scientifically approved method of
data erasure overwrites the appropriate corresponding areas
of the hard disk 35 times following precisely defined rules.
In this way, O&O SafeErase exceeds the requirements of DoD
and BSI.
Can I restrict the
usage of O&O SafeErase, so that a standard user is not able
to erase files with it?
Of course you can choose during the installation process of
O&O SafeErase if only administrators or all user should be
able to use O&O SafeErase.
Does O&O SafeErase
comply with NTFS security settings?
Yes, you can only erase files that you have write permission
